High Voltage Reed Relays

EAC's High Voltage Reed Relays are designed with input from the end user. That is to say that you have control over the design. That's right, you choose the specifications and package size and leave the rest to us.

Let's look at the relay to the left. It is less than two inches in length with a width and height of about 5/8 of an inch. It is a totally sealed relay capable of switching over 1000 VDC, standing off 2000 VDC. It can handle a total VA of 15. All leads exit from the bottom, allowing it to be PC mountable.

It is also available using a mercury wet switch that will switch 50 VA at 1000 VDC.

The relay to the right can utilize up to a 20 KV reed switch. This relay has brass mounting screws securely attached to the inside of the relay so that the entire relay can be bolted to the PCB or bracket. Flying switch leads having up to 20 KV insulation are attached to the switch inside of the relay and exit out of one end. The entire relay is vacuum molded inside of the 94-VO case with a 94-VO silicon rubber specifically designed for this application by General Electric. Leads can be any length desired.

The relay to the left has some unique applications since it consists to two high voltage reed switches that are specifically selected for voltage breakdown of up to 20 KV and matched to each other. A magnet is placed over the center of the relay coil and magnetically charged so that the relay contacts are normally closed. This allows voltage/current to pass through the internal reed switches until the coil is energized, providing enough magnetic flux to temporarily cancel the permanent magnet's flux. This allows the contacts to spring open, thus breaking the voltage/current flow. Relays can be designed that will easily handle up to 20 KV at about 15 watts and up to 10 KV at about 30 watts. Notice the short lead exiting from the top of the relay. It is connected to the hot side of the reed switches inside.

EAC has over 30 years experience designing and manufacturing these high voltage reed relays. We have made just about any style and shape imaginable. It may be that you have a specific set of requirements that you need addressed.
