SERIES B1A-TEL
EAC's Line Sense Reed Relay
Application Notes

General Information
EAC's B1A-TEL line sense reed relay is designed to be installed on a printed circuit board as a small PWB mount loop current detector. It easily meets all requirements of the FCC Part 68 regulated telephone applications. The relay is constructed so that the coil longitudinal balance is in excess of 63 db over the frequency ranges of 200 hz to 3 khz.

The contact closure of the internal reed switch is actuated when the loop current exceeds 18 ma. This action takes place when the EAC B1A-TEL is connected in series with an ordinary telephone line. The closure of the switch, activated by the current in the telephone line, can be used for rotary dial pulse counting, switch hook flash detection, or on-hook, off-hook monitoring.

Applications
The manner in which the EAC B1A-TEL line sense reed relay can be used is boundless. Some of them are as follows: Rotary Dial Monitoring Equipment, Line Status Monitor For Data Acquisition, Central Office Products, Security Telephone Products, PBX & Key Systems.

Features
Fast actuation of 1 ms, including switch bounce. Can sense telephone line current from 18 to 125 ma. Meets FCC Part 68.
Isolation of 1500 vdc between coil and contact. Totally encapsulated, withstands most cleaning solvents.

Our Quality Assurance

Reed Relay Reliability Program
Rigorous pre-testing of the reed switch under actual low level operating conditions is just the first step in EAC's continuing efforts to build the most reliable reed relays in the industry. The coils, for example, must pass no less than three inspections prior to reaching final assembly. In addition, each major construction operation is monitored by experienced inspectors who will take pride in helping produce the most reliable relays technically possible.

Testing Methods
100% testing of the reed switches before use and of the relays when finished is patterned after MIL-Q-45208. MIL-R-5757 test methods are used. Static and dynamic relay operation to verify proper performance and to assure a trouble free life is undertaken as a part of the final testing operation to insure that each EAC reed relay conforms to specifications.

Our program Of QA
Quality Assurance at EAC is the by-word that we live by. EAC has achieved many awards for excellence of quality and delivery. This is assured to the customer by the implementation of the famous Japanese Assembly Methodology and what is known as Total Quality Control.

Something Else

Do You Need A "Special Relay"?
EAC has developed many special reed relays for telephone line switching applications. You may need to have a relay with a standoff voltage of a few thousand volts between the contacts. You might need a relay with a breakdown voltage between coils of more than 1000 VDC. And have you thought about having two or more switches in the same relay, all meeting part 68?

Who Do You Call?
EAC has the answer to the above questions that you might ask. That's because we have been there before. It may be one parameter or a combination of specifics that are required. Although this specification sheet portrays just one type of telephone line sense relay, remember that EAC has several types already designed.

Can EAC Help You?
EAC is especially geared to handle not only the standard relays of this type, but excels at the "special" reed relay. Our 35 years in the field of reed relays and associated products means that we have the answer to your unspoken question.

What Does It Cost?
EAC specializes in working toward a no trade-off conception, and at a price and delivery within target. Free samples of course!
